To practice developmental movement is to journey through the history of how we came to be.
Developmental movement establishes early pathways for the movement that will be occurring our entire life, whether we are talking about the movement of our spine and limbs in the space around us, or from the perspective of the internal movement of our thoughts, emotions perceptions and intentions.
As we travel from primitive to more sophisticated movement patterns, we are “revisiting” the sequential stages of our  development. We have the opportunity to realise in which stages we feel free and at ease, and in which stages we feel more inhibited. Any movement pattern that doesn’t feel familiar enough to our body-mind, indicates that we need to practice the preceding stages that will, once consolidated, provide support, and lead us naturally into the next stage of development.
We practice each stage in different relationships to gravity – prone, supine, quadruped, standing upright - and in the context of fundamental movement principles of yield, push reach and pull.
All throughout the journey, we are pairing movement with perception, and looking to create neuromuscular connections needed for smooth, safe, coordinated, and integrated sense of moving and being.

Embodying fascia - the connective webbing that envelops, integrates and distinguishes spaces in our body - can give us a strong sense of inner and outer intercontectedness. The emphasis is on whole-body movements, and on reconciling the body and mind.

Note: In this session, much of the guidance is verbal, not visual. There are parts where I am demonstrating the movement, but most of the class you will need to be attentive to my verbal cuing, and rely on the arising body sensations
